Charter Week SEYCHELLES

09 Nov-18 Nov 2012 – Charter Week Seychelles 2012

The most beautiful beaches, the finest ocean, the nicest colours. The earthly paradise in the Indian Ocean can be viewed very well with a catamaran.

Short distances, many anchorage bays, in winter time the light winds make the Seychelles to an ideal sailing area. The wonderful beaches which are used as background for many promotion pictures are extraordinary.

If there is anybody who did not sail with a catamaran before it is possible to learn and to train it in the Charter Week and to get to know all about catamarans. On a regatta you can show the knowledge that you have gained.

The Seychelles belong to the most beautiful snorkel and diving areas of the Indian Ocean. Extraordinary coral atolls, granite formations and many wrecks are the homeland of the coloured tropical fishes, turtles, etc. Within the charter week we offer scuba diving to discover the underwater world.

The weather in this area is dictated by the North West Monsoon. It blows with 2 – 5 bft from NW. The temperature is 30 degrees. The tidal differences in spring are a max. of 1.80 m. and the tidal currents between the islands can be very strong. Lone beaches for going on land can have large waves that can damage the dinghy or your out board motor can be damaged.
Furthermore, some islands are privately owned and you can not go ashore on them without prior permission from the owner, and while other islands are off-limits to everyone. There is also some nautical nature reserves where a fee is waived, i.e. this being between 10.00 and 25.00 Euro per person or ship.

For German, Swiss and Austrian tourists no visa is necessary. The passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of departure. Vaccinations are not required.
the use of a mobile phone is possible on Mahé, Praslin and partly on La Digue too.

The SO LONG Charter Week is a sailing event for charter crews and cabin cruise clients to discover and explore attractive charter areas. With our service we offer all information that is needed for secure navigation in these areas. For example: which customs/harbour institution formalities must be done. How to behave in the harbours.
What weather conditions are important. Are there special ways to anchor. Which nautical literature is needed for the cruise planning etc... Every sailing day begins with a skippers briefing and through out the day all yachts are in contact via VHF.

One of the Charter Week aims is to become acquainted with other sailors and make new contacts and friends. We support this and will try to organise it for you too.
